Parsec Ink produces Triangulation, an annual short fiction anthology.
Parsec Ink has been publishing the annual science fiction, fantasy, horror anthology since 2003. Every year we offer a new theme and open a public call for story submissions. Writers from around the globe create stories specifically suited to our themes.
The editors change every few years and oversee all aspects of publishing a speculative fiction anthology, including choosing the theme and artwork, assembling their own editorial team, accepting and editing works from new writers and old masters, formatting the book for publication, fundraising and advertising.
The authors and artists are paid semi-pro rates. Two dozen students on the editorial team get a first-hand lesson on publishing. Triangulation reinvents itself with each revamping of the editorial staff, bringing forward the best from lessons learned and welcoming the energy and creative vision of the editor of the future.
Triangulation Submission Guidelines
Our History
The Triangulation anthology was created in 2003 by Diane Turnshek for local area writers to learn how to be an editor. The anthology has been edited by:
- Barb Carlson was editor from 2004-2005.
- Pete Butler (editor: 2007-2009) transformed the anthology into an international semi-pro paying market and established a high bar for quality.
- Bill Moran continued the tradition in 2010 with Triangulation: End of the Rainbow.
- In 2011, the anthology was edited by Steve Ramey and Jamie Lackey.
- Steve Ramey continued to be editor for the 2012-2014 issues.
- Jamie Lackey took over for 2015-2016.
- In 2017 and 2018, editors and Pittsburgh authors Douglas Gwilym and Frank Oreto continued the tradition.
- Diane Turnshek co-edited with Chloe Nightingale in 2019.
- In 2020 Isaac Payne co-edited with Diane Turnshek.
- In 2021 John Thompson and Herb Kauderer were editors.
- For the 2022 edition of the anthology, John Thompson edited.
- The 2023 editor was Greg Clumpner.
We would like to thank all the editors, assistant editors and slush readers who have put in hundreds of hours of volunteer time over the years.
Triangulation shares an informal relationship with the annual Parsec Short Story Contest.
Note: The Parsec Short Story contest and the Triangulation anthology are two completely different publications and have different requirements and submission guidelines, including eligibility and word length.
Parsec Ink’s Triangulation series is an educational program under the Parsec Inc., 501(c)(3) organization. It is the mission of Parsec “to promote awareness of the richness of speculative fiction as literature, art and music; further general education in the sciences and arts, support contributions–both scientific and artistic–to society and to espouse the enjoyment of speculative fiction as literature, art and music with others.”
