Our filk (SF & fantasy folk music) program at Confluence continues to get bigger and better. This year we have concerts running all afternoon on Saturday, including performances by:
In what is becoming a delightful tradition at Confluence, perennial guest Pete Grubbs will also be performing. And for our also-traditional Saturday night concert, we are proud to welcome our first Featured Filk Guest, singer/songwriter, harpist, and just plain great musician Heather Rose Jones, presented by Confluence and PFUI (Pittsburgh Filk Underwriting Insanity). (Stay tuned -- we might even have one or two more concerts to announce by the time the con rolls around!)
Speaking of traditions, this year marks the dubious return of our Saturday evening musical travesty. We'll be examining what happens when Jules Verne meets Julie Andrews in "20,000 Leagues of Music."
We'll also be having an hour sampling/discussion of "found filk": We'll be playing brief selections from tapes and CDs by both "filkers who don't know they're filkers" and not-very-filky musicians who happened to somehow record a filk number. Bring a short number (less than 4 minutes, please) for the rest of us to hear!
And last but not least, for the performer and listener in each of us, there will be open filking on both Friday and Saturday nights. Yunz c'mon dahn, hear?
